WhereCamp2011 attendees

Dedicated and enthusiastic WhereCamp2011 attendees. (Thanks to Jessica for providing the photo.)

Thank you for joining us for WhereCampSoCal 2011 at Google’s Santa Monica office. It was a day and a half of discussion, networking, demos, and all manner of geospatial goodness. Special thanks to our generous sponsors for making it possible! 2011 sponsors were CityGrid Media, Google, Esri, Factual, GE, and O’Reilly Media (Where 2.0).

Stewart Long was on hand today with his cameras and balloon. Flew it about 30 minutes on continuous shooting – took about 4,000 photos! He is going to work on stitching them together next.

Looks like a great start to the event!

Tomorrow is the start of the WhereCamp SoCal weekend event being held at SDSU in the Adams Humanities building, room 2108.

We are providing food all three meals on Saturday. We will have some munchies for breakfast on Sunday (and lots of coffee) – if you need/want a full breakfast you might want to eat before you get there. And Sunday lunch will be on your on "off camp" at one of the neighborhood eateries. Sorry folks, sponsorships couldn’t buy enough food for all meals.

Take the Green Line to SDSU if you are interested in making use of the San Diego Trolley.

Everything gets started at 8 AM – get there for breakfast, meeting lots of great folks, and planning the breakout session discussion topics! We will also have two keynote talks, then get into your choice of a breakout session, or a workshop.

After dinner we will be adding another twist with a few Ignite/Lightning Talks. We are going to follow that up with a field trip to a local bar or???
Folks are then welcome to head back to the Viz Lab if they want to continue discussions or hack on some code into the wee hours.

We will start up again Sunday morning with breakfast, networking and planning out the breakout session discussion topics for the day. Lunch break half way through the day at noon. And we will wrap up at 3 with some closing thoughts.

Looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow!

Quick update to let you know that the event dates and location have been finalized for WhereCamp SoCal!

Look for more specifics and registration to come, but mark your calendars now for July 17-18, 2010 at San Diego State University (SDSU)! Special thanks to Eric Frost at SDSU for helping us locate and reserve the facility!

This is the weekend directly after the ESRI User Conference, so if you are attending UC – plan on a few extra days at WhereCamp! Not going to UC – that’s cool – but don’t miss WhereCamp!

We plan on having a lot of fun, getting to meet lots of new people, doing some learning, and talking a lot about geo related topics and planning projects that can help make a difference.

Welcome to the WhereCamp SoCal blog where we will aim to keep you up-to-date on the latest happenings related to this event.
